Verano Challenges New Jersey Cannabis Labor-Peace Mandate

Verano Holdings and Verano NJ filed a federal suit arguing that New Jersey cannot condition cannabis licenses on labor peace agreements because federal labor law preempts the requirement; the complaint seeks to prevent license denial, suspension, revocation or nonrenewal and to make Verano’s union agreements voidable. For Oklahoma operators and multistate employers, the case is a transferable signal that federal preemption challenges can reshape cannabis licensing conditions, renewal risk and union strategy.
